BUTTERFLY GARDEN

Nature That Transforms
At Pupa House, we believe every small action can create meaningful change. That is why, in 2023, we created our butterfly garden: a space dedicated to conserving native species from Guanacaste, promoting environmental education, and supporting the well-being of our community.
In addition to protecting biodiversity, this project supports Fundación PECAS and its work in the prevention and treatment of chronic illnesses in Costa Rica.

MEET OUR BUTTERFLIES

Blue Morpho Butterfly
The blue morpho is one of the most breathtaking symbols of tropical biodiversity. It lives in warm, humid forests, and its life cycle lasts approximately one month, passing through four stages: egg, caterpillar, chrysalis, and adult butterfly.
While caterpillars feed on the leaves of leguminous plants, adult butterflies enjoy nectar and fermented fruit.
Come admire its vibrant blue wings up close and experience the magic of this remarkable species at Pupa House.

Owl Butterfly
Nature Never Fails to Surprise
A Flash of Blue in the Tropical Forest
The owl butterfly (Caligo memnon) is known for its large brown wings and distinctive eyespots, which resemble the eyes of an owl. This natural pattern helps confuse and deter predators.
Its life cycle lasts between 30 and 40 days. During the caterpillar stage, it feeds on plants such as banana and plantain. As an adult, it prefers ripe fruit and the nectar of tropical flowers.
Meet this gentle giant of biodiversity in a setting surrounded by nature.

LIFE AND CONSERVATION
Costa Rica is home to more than 1,500 butterfly species, making it one of the most biodiverse destinations in the world.
A butterfly’s life cycle consists of four stages:

An Extraordinary Transformation
Throughout this process, butterflies play an essential role as pollinators and contribute to the balance of local ecosystems.
At Pupa House, we protect these species by creating suitable spaces for their feeding, reproduction, and development.
